BOA VS PYTHON DVD MOVIE
Really though, the effects, acting, and production are all so cheap, what could really be said in a featurette? Previews don't count so… what's that? Anaconda: Trail of Blood? Aw, no! A FOURTH movie already? Lord… Score: 4 out of 10 The Bottom Line Yeah, this movie is bad but, if you're watching it, chances are you know what you're in for… and it's what you want. You know what you're getting! Extras are nonexistent. Score: 5 out of 10 Packaging and Extras While not exactly a Drew Struzan piece, the cover is more or less effective and accurate: action stereotype characters in action poses with a picture of a giant snake ready to attack. This is a problem, as scenes with hissing snakes, screaming humans, music, and gunshots are all throughout the movie. The 5.1 mix is certainly passable, but can be very, very shallow when a lot of different sounds are happening at once. Things are more standard fare in terms of audio. Score: 8 out of 10 Languages and Audio 5.1 Dolby Digital with English and French subtitles. The CG snakes looked a bit blurred, but that's likely more the effects team's fault, and not the DVD itself. The picture is very colorful and lively, boasting some pretty impressive depth, all things considered. Visually speaking, the movie isn't too bad really. Score: 4 out of 10 Video and Presentation Anaconda 3 is presented in an anamorphic widescreen. It's possibly better than the second one, but that's like saying that a compost heap is better than a dog turd. Anaconda 3 is a bad movie, make no mistake. Still, though, a small glimmer of light can't dispel so much darkness. Yeah, I know! Not great, of course, but the copious amounts of blood at least give the movie a small amount of manliness. In this modern era there shouldn't be anything this bad looking! All that aside, if this movie is better than some of the direct-to-Sci-Fi Channel snake movies, what makes it so? Well, the action sequences are… actually pretty good. The special effects are so abysmal that the CG snakes look like they belong in a Sega CD game, bad visual compression and all.

A few one-liners by Hasselhoff might make one grin slightly, but other than that, the script and story seem like a four year old wrote them the night before they were due in English class. He leads an uninspired cast of nobodies who you'll be rooting for to be snake food. How does it stack up to the titans of cinema? It's better than most, but so what? Giant snake movies suck! Hasselhoff has nothing better to do? Granted he's by far the only even remotely redeemable thing in the film, but between Knight Rider cameos and re-runs of the abysmal Nick Fury, he might as well not exist anymore. So with that in mind, Anaconda 3 joins the same pantheon of giant snake movies populated by immortal classics like Python, Python 2, Boa, Boa vs. "So bad they're good." "Popcorn flicks." A million other euphemisms convey the same meaning of artistically devoid, stupid fun. The first Anaconda, and yes, even movies like Snakes on a Plane - lousy as they are - seem to revel in that fact. Pauline Kael (and subsequently Roger Ebert) has been quoted as saying, "The movies are so rarely great art, that if we cannot appreciate great trash, we have no reason to go." And truer words were never spoken. It's hard to review a movie like this because, well, if it's being graded on the merits and art of filmmaking, there's really no point in going any further. The film is directed by Don Fauntleroy and written by Nicholas Davidoff and David Olsen. Hammett is called in to deal with a couple of genetically engineered anacondas who have escaped from the lab and are headed for civilization.
